A lonely girl writes to her sailor boy...
During World War 2, my grandparents shared an evening together on a small island in the Pacific. A Red Cross donut girl, Helen, and her wandering sailor boy, Bill. They shared a dance and an evening walk with a promise to see each other the following morning. They called it their "mañana". However, the next day Helen was unexpectedly shipped off. To keep her promise as best she could, she wrote a letter not knowing if she would ever hear back. But she did, and they would go on to exchanged over 200 of the most beautiful handwritten letters.
Although they had only spent an hour together on a blind date, a bond quickly grew into a love that would last a lifetime, fulfilling their dreams of "mañana". Helen's innocent act to initiate correspondence caused a ripple effect that would change not only their lives, but lead to me.

Daily Pre-Order Goal: 3/6
Working together to share the story...
Every letter was written during a shared coffee hour miles apart, a dedicated time to escape from reality and dive into their dreams every day.
I want to continue my grandmother's story – turning the beginnings of her scrapbook into a coffee table book: comprised of photos, their letters, and transcriptions to share the story with more people around the world. Helen felt as if the only person who understood her was Bill, but now the world has an opportunity to see Helen for who she is, and witness her beauty that shines through her writing.
Each purchase helps show there is an army who wants Helen & Bill's love story to be shared. Books are expected to ship in early 2026. Thank you in advance for your support. We are in this together!
